Welcome to The JC

We are at the heart of community life in Codicote and surrounds.

Since its opening in April,2015 the centre continues to deliver on its purpose of providing a wide range of community sports, recreational and leisure opportunities and activities in memory of one of Codicote’s most brave and selfless sons, John Clements, as well as awarding grants to aid the development of local sports clubs

There’s so much going on at the JC. With its beautiful surroundings, easy access and quality facilities, the JC is also ideal for corporate events or your special family party or function;

Why not hold your Wedding here?  The historic 12th Century church of St. Giles is just 100 metres away.  Or just meet up with friends and family to enjoy a drink, chat and watch the sport.

Behind the Scenes at The JC

Named after a local teacher, John Clements died rescuing school children in a dreadful hotel fire in northern Italy in 1976 and was subsequently awarded the George Cross.  The Centre is run by The John Clements Sports & Community Trust, a charity registered with the Charity Commission (Registered No: 1139009).

Following on from the previous incarnation of Codicote Sports & Social Club, the Centre opened in April 2015 and was extended in 2021. There have been two sustained fundraising campaigns which have attracted widespread financial support to close on £1 million from national and local businesses, charitable bodies, governmental and local authority institutions and other local friends of the JC.

The actual trust is now governed by 7 trustees – Jim Park (Chairman), Karry Omer, Jeff Chapman, Mark Knapper, Maxine Broad, Tony Putterill and Ian Mathieson.  These trustees are responsible for ensuring that the trust continues to generate financial surpluses through the operations of the Centre which are the reinvested back into the community, customers and the clubs who use the centres.
