Codicote football club has been in existence since 1912 and for the vast majority of that time the Club has run one side competing predominantly in the local North Herts leagues. In 1993 under the present committee the Club was promoted to the Herts Senior County League and from this point onwards the club has grown in both size and diversity. Since 1995 an additional senior side has competed in The Herts Senior County league and the introduction over the last 3 years of youth football back into the club is establishing strong grass roots for the senior teams. At present the club has an under 18, under 15 and an under 9’s boys teams. To encourage participation also by girls the Club has formed links with Stevenage Boro Ladies who now ground share with 2 teams at Codicote’s John Clements Memorial ground.

In 1993 Codicote FC had 21 members, both playing and non playing, today that number has increased to over 110 with 45 members being under 18. In 1993 we had no qualified coaches today we have 8 FA Qualified coach’s, registered first aiders for every side and a qualified Club Physio.
The senior club also achieved in 2006 the FA Charter Standard for adult clubs which is recognized as a kite mark within Grassroots Football and is regarded as a statement of quality.

Codicote FC is committed to increasing participation in the game within the community and has established strong links with the local school and other youth clubs.

This season will see the under 9s side playing mini soccer in the Mid Herts Rural Minors league extending our links to the local Junior School in Codicote which all the players attend and plans are in place to increase the number of teams from both younger and older age groups. In addition in conjunction with Gosling Stadium Sport Park in Welwyn Garden City, Codicote are using their own senior coaches to introduce both after school and early evening coaching sessions for the local community, which should not only give local boys and girls an opportunity to get into football but also encourage the growth of sides at Codicote. The club has also formed a link to King George Youth Football Club in Welwyn Garden City to give a natural progression of their youth sides into senior football. This link will see both KGFC and Codicote coaches meeting and providing sessions for each Club whilst the players will be invited to join the senior ranks at Codicote for training sessions.

Our goal is to achieve the highest possible standard for all. Promotion into Step 6, the Spartan South Midlands League for the 1st team, would mean achieving success both on and off the field. We want to provide the facilities to enable the 1st Team to climb up the pyramid system and in doing so improve resources within the community to grow the youth teams.

Sustain:

The link to both our own youth sides and that of KGFC will encourage those players within the age group of 16 plus to maintain their involvement in football. At present the Codicote Senior side reserve manager and his assistant are also the Codicote under 18’s coach and manager thus maintaining the link to youth. Both the youth and senior committees have two full time representatives on each others committees’ thus keeping communication between the two organizations open.

Excel:

On the achievement scale the reserve side became League Champions of the Herts County Reserve division in 2009, whilst the 1st team managed to achieve their highest placed finish (5th from 17), in the Herts County Premier Division 08/09. For the first time in the clubs history, Codicote FC were able to enter a team into the FA Vase 08/09 and after defeating Bedfont from the United Counties League managed to get to the first round proper a feat beyond most county League sides.

The under 16’s achieved promotion to the Mid Herts Premier division in their first season (08/09) and now compete as under 17’s in the under 18 League.

Success is not only measured in promotions and league titles the senior club once again was awarded the Sportsmanship trophy by the Herts Senior county League, an award voted on by all the competing teams within the league therefore establishing it as a successful and sporting club to belong to.
